The national tournament brings out teams from across the country, and was a big leap for the group, which has been playing together for the last three years, thanks largely to Williams’ leadership abilities under pressure.

Shawnee High School alumnus and former NBA player Allen has been hired as a new assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons. The Villanova product will serve under head coach Stan Van Gundy, who coached Allen while he was playing for the Miami Heat. Gerry Taraschi

Taraschi, a former Washington Township High School assistant football coach, was recently inducted into the South Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in a banquet at Masso’s Caterers. The retired coach and teacher helped lead Washington Township to a series of championships, including three Group IV sectional titles, during his tenure as defensive coordinator and assistant coach.

Tim Legler

Legler, a former NBA shooting guard, was busy this season, running his seventh consecutive youth basketball camp and coaching a South Jersey Amateur Athletic Union Under-14 team. His team went 21-2 with four tournament wins at the start of the summer. Legler has pushed his team to two Elite 8 finishes through the summer, dominating the competition in the process.

Rob Reynolds
Marlton
After leading the Marlton 10U Reds to the Cal Ripken Middle Atlantic Regional championship, Reynolds took his team to the Cal Ripken World Series in Winchester, Va. The kids, who have been playing together since they were 8 years old, went on to post a perfect 6-0 record against teams from across the country, including a 9-1 win over Southeast Lexington, Ky., in the final to claim the coveted title.

Lauren Kendra
Haddon Heights
A former star basketball player at Gloucester Catholic High School and the Rams’ JV coach the last two years, Kendra is getting a chance to run her own program. She was recently approved as the new head girls coach at Haddon Heights, and she will look to help the Garnets build on last year’s 22-5 season. Kendra graduated Gloucester Catholic in 2004 and went on to break the record for career assists at King’s College.

Shane Snyder
Washington Township
Snyder has a lot to be proud of this year after leading his Washington Township High School golf team to the Group IV state championship. With Snyder’s determination and dedication to coaching, the Minutemen had a dominant season and captured four different championships.

Jackie Mulligan

As a player, the former Jackie Donovan scored 2,516 points at Sterling and was inducted into the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. She also enjoyed success as a coach at Sterling, winning two South Jersey Group II titles, a Group II state title and the Tournament of Champions crown in 2000.

Rich Bender

Bender, the only head baseball coach in the history of Delran High School, celebrated his 600th career win this past season. He became the 11th coach in New Jersey history to reach the milestone when the Bears defeated Willingboro, 13-0. Bender started the program in 1976 and has guided Delran to five South Jersey titles and two state championships.

Dan Spittal

Spittal recently stepped down after 14 highly successful seasons as the Eastern High School football coach. The Vikings posted an 86-61 record during his tenure, including a 10-2 mark last fall, when they reached the South Jersey Group V championship game. Spittal also led the program to its only sectional title in 2003. Spittal, who retired from teaching at the end of the school year, is looking to coach at the college level.
